About The National Center for Victims of Crime...


National Centre for Victims of Crime (NCVC) is a Professional and Non Profitable Organization established to protect victims of crime in Sri Lanka. The governing criminal Justice system is not providing enough protection for the rights of victims of crime.


Within our adversarial legal system, crime considers as an offence against the society or state and victims are merely considered as witnesses in the Judicial Process. Centre was established on 17th May 2002 on a suggestion of Hon Chief Justice Sarath N Silva PC. Its Main focus is to support crime victims to overcome their difficulties in way such as providing free legal advice and free legal representation. It’s Advisory Council consists of the apex personals within the criminal justice system.





Objectives of the NCVC...
 
To promote Legislation on the Rights of Victims.
To campaign for a National Victims Support System which includes compensation fund.
Campaign for prevention of crime, recognize and respect the fundamental human rights of victims of crime.
Sensitize the professionals within the criminal justice system and general public on victims rights.
